STS51B-038-0098 - Lake Lowell and Boise Area, Idaho May 1985 Located in the fertile Treasure Valley of southwestern Idaho, Lake Lowell (dark feature center of image) can be seen in this south, southwest-looking view. Lake Powell is located 22 miles (35 kilometers) southwest of Boise (left center), the capital and largest city in Idaho. The lake sits in a depression or a large alluvial filled basin. Lake Lowell covers 9000 acres (3645 hectares) and is fed by water from the Boise River. The lake is used for irrigation, recreation, and as a wintering environment for waterfowl on the Pacific flyway. A section of Luck Peak Lake (light- colored feature)is visible along the right edge of the image. |
