  STS073-725-048 Aspen, Colorado, U.S.A. October 1995
This near-vertical photograph, generated from natural color film, looks like a black and white photograph because of snow cover and the lack of colorful surfaces to reflect much light from the narrow canyons. The winter ski resort of Aspen (not discernible at this scale) is located approximately at the center of the photograph near the junction of several tributaries of Roaring Fork River. Much of the rugged terrain in this region contains hundreds of faults and shows the effects of glaciation. Some snow-covered peaks and ridges to the east are part of the Continental Divide of the Sawatch Mountains.
