  STS069-718-53 Fort Myers, Florida, U.S.A. September 1995
North Fort Myers and Cape Coral (lighter terrain in the center) are separated from Fort Myers by the Caloosahatchee River and Canal. Discernible to the north are large Charlotte Harbor, northeast of which is Port Charlotte at the mouth of the Peace River; Pine Island, an elongated island inside a sandy barrier island chain in this section of southwest Florida; and long, curving Sanibel Island, one of the barrier islands southwest of Fort Myers. Visible are northwest-southeast-oriented Interstate Highway 75 and several bridges that span the Caloosahatchee and Peace Rivers. Lighter areas denote the intrusion of human activity into a formerly swampy landscape.
