STS064-110-086 Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz, and Santa Cruz Mountains, California, U.S.A. September 1994
Dark blue Monterey Bay and the forested Santa Cruz Mountains are featured in this near-vertical photograph. Santa Cruz, north of the bay, has many fine beaches and is surrounded by hills and redwoods. Tourism, electronics, and food processing are the main industries of the city. The small city of Watsonville, a trade and processing center for vegetables and fruits grown in the surrounding agricultural areas, is visible east of the bay. The Salinas River enters Monterey Bay from the south.
