STS039-096-064 Okanagan Lake, British Columbia, Canada May 1991
Okanagan Lake, the snake-like lake in this image, fills a valley in southern British Columbia. The lake drains south (lower right corner) to the Okanagan River, a large tributary of the Columbia River. Adjoining valleys are used for irrigated agriculture. The pattern of regular, white grids on many of the forested mountain slopes east and west of Okanagan Lake are forest clear cuts, the result of logging activities in this region.
