NM21-769-014 Kremenchugsk Reservoir, Ukraine Summer 1996
The prominent sugar beet agricultural region surrounding the Kremenchugsk Reservoir in the western Ukraine can be seen in this east-northeast-looking view. The Kremenchugsk Reservoir is part of the Dnieper, a 1430-mile (2300 km) long river. The city of Kremenchug a major industrial city thanks to the hydroelectric power generated by the dam and waters of the reservoir is located below the dam (near right center of the image). On the reservoir's southwest bank near the bottom left of the image is the city of Cherkassy with important chemical-fiber and fertilizer industries. The city is a major transportation hub in the Ukraine for this sugar beet and tobacco-growing region. The darker-colored areas seen near the bottom of the image are timber-growing regions.
