STS068-208-095 Helena and Hauser Reservoir, Montana, U.S.A. October 1994
Helena, the capital of Montana, is discernible (right of center) in this south-southeast-looking, low-oblique, color infrared photograph. Helena, a commercial and shipping center in a ranching and mining area, sits at the south end of the Helena Valley, a small agricultural region. The city was founded soon after the discovery of gold in 1864 in Last Chance Gulch, which is now Main Street. Visible are Lake Helena (left of center) and Hauser Reservoir to its south.
